Questions and answers
- How strong is the password protection?
- The PDF is encrypted with the password you set, so a PDF reader asks for it before opening the file. Choose a long password and keep it safe: we never see it and cannot recover it for you.
- Are my files uploaded anywhere?
- No. Your browser opens and processes the files itself, and nothing is sent to our servers. You can check this yourself on the How we do it page.
- Will my PDF look the same afterwards?
- Text, pictures and layout stay as they are unless the tool exists to change them, as compression does to picture quality. Check the result before you send it; your original file is never touched.
- Is Protect PDF really free?
- Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you use it for.
- Does it work on a phone?
- Yes. It works in the browser on phones, tablets and computers. A very large file can be slow on an older phone because everything runs on the device.
- Is there a file size limit?
- We set no limit. The real limit is your device’s memory: if a very large file will not open, try a computer or work in smaller parts.
